
The violence may subside at times, but the absence of any sort of resolution will mean that it could reignite at any moment. Unfortunately, the war shows little prospect of ending. Rather than collapsing, Ukraine and its supporters have shown an inspiring determination and solidarity in the face of aggression.

The bravery of Ukrainians, and the unity of their partners, have been the defining features of the war’s first phase. Together, these proposals would protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and help create the long-term conditions for a resolution to the war – if and when a more constructive attitude emerges in the Kremlin.Īs the war in Ukraine passes its six-month mark, the return of conflict to the European continent continues to shock.The long-war plan will also provide clarity to anxious publics in member states.


To sustain Ukraine during this conflict, Europeans should draw up a four-part ‘long-war plan’.Russia’s war on Ukraine is likely to last many years, even if the violence may subside at times.
